Mendenhall Residence Hall is named in honor of Gertrude Mendenhall, a charter member of the faculty who served as head of the Department of Mathematics from the founding of the school in 1892 until her death in 1926. Mendenhall’s will provided a scholarship in mathematics, which is still awarded to students today.
