Carter
by David Schiff

Since arriving at UNCG in 2003, I have published a book and several articles on the music of the American composer Elliott Carter (1908-2012). Anyone who writes about Carter is indebted to David Schiff's work, which is marked by erudition, musical insight, and a deep knowledge of Carter's life and work. In selecting Schiff's 2018 book "Carter," I hope to acknowledge in some small way the indispensable role that Schiff's work has played in my understanding of Carter.
