Writing to Change the World
by Mary Pipher

During graduate school, we as academics learned the important conventions of technical and academic writing. However, that form of writing can pose limitations for our work impacting life in the "real world." I read this book soon after completing graduate school, and it helped me to understand the potential for other forms of writing to make a different type of impact than we make through our scholarly work. Whether it's writing a blog post, op-ed, or even social media post, I still use what I learned from reading this book to help me remember to write in ways that can make the greatest impact for the community.
