Breaking Bread: Recipes and Stories from Immigrant Kitchens
by Lynne Christy Anderson

This book shows how food connects us to our culture and how it gives us identity and helps us stay bonded to our memories and roots. Lynn Anderson interviews several immigrant families settled in this country, showing how cooking traditional dishes and staple foods of their native countries help them stay connected to their culture and memories, while they are settling and building connections with the mainstream society. Being an immigrant myself (originally from India), I have realized that food helps me to stay rooted to my religion and culture. In my opinion, food not only meets our nutritional needs, but represents our traditions, values and beliefs.
