One hundred sixty-five residents of Essex County oppose a bill for religious freedom, considering it "as very injurious to the Christian Religion." They therefore ask that "Licentious and Itinerant Preachers" be forbidden from holding meetings with slaves; that all ministers be required to have a place of worship; that "no Insults or interruptions be suffered to any Christian Congregation assembled at proper times for Worship"; and "that no doctrine be permited to be preached which may tend to subvert Government of disturb Civil Society."
