About SCUA

As of October 12, 2026, the Martha Blakeney Hodges Special Collection and University Archives will be open by appointment only. While we will make every effort to provide access, some collections and materials will be unavailable or subject to delayed retrieval times while work is underway.

Before visiting the library, we recommend contacting SCUA staff at scua@uncg.edu to confirm that your materials are available for use.

Digital Collections: While waiting, please note that many of our collections are digitized and available at digitalgreensboro.org; however, this resource may not include all collections.

The Martha Blakeney Hodges Special Collections and University Archives at UNC Greensboro (SCUA) collects, preserves, and makes accessible unique and historical materials, furthering the educational and service missions of UNCG. SCUA’s efforts, including collection development, outreach, and course-integrated instructional sessions, are guided by a commitment to supporting student learning and scholarly research while fostering meaningful engagement with the broader community.

• Serve as the official repository of the records and history of The University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
• Provide the University faculty and students, as well as the general public, with unique manuscripts, rare books, and special collections for research and learning.
• Promote the digitization of collections to increase use and enhance access.
• Provide timely and authoritative reference and instructional services for those using the resources of Special Collections and University Archives.
• Connect with University faculty and students to integrate Special Collections and University Archives into curriculum development, instruction, and student success.
• Collaborate and communicate with all University Libraries’ units to ensure that resources and services are accessible to users.
