Welcome to the Special Collections & University Archives department of UNCG University Libraries. Our mission is to collect, preserve, organize, and make accessible the often unique or rare materials that document the history of our university and the Piedmont Triad region, as well as the history of women in the United States military.

Special Collections and University Archives is open Monday-Friday, 9:00am-4:00pm, when Jackson Library is open.

Please email [email protected] to schedule an appointment to view archival materials. Appointments are encouraged and will be prioritized. Please indicate dates and times for your visit, which collection you would like to view, what specific parts of the collection (boxes or folders) you would like to view, and if you plan to scan materials.

The Martha Blakeney Hodges Special Collections and University Archives at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro collects, preserves, and makes accessible unique and historical materials for learning and research. The department promotes the use of these materials by the University’s academic community, scholars, and the public. Its goal is to advance scholarship and to further the educational and service missions of the University.

The ten curatorial areas are: rare books; cello music; manuscripts; children’s literature collections; university archives; women’s literature collections; photographs, prints, and poster collections; book art and book bindings; artifacts and textiles collections; and the women veterans historical project.

  • Serve as the official repository of the records and history of The University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
  • Provide the University faculty and students, as well as the general public, with unique manuscripts and rare books for research and learning.
  • Promote the digitization of collections to increase use and enhance access.
  • Collaborate and communicate with all University Libraries’ units to ensure that resources and services are accessible to users.
  • Provide timely and authoritative reference and instructional services for those using the resources of Special Collections and University Archives.
  • Connect with University faculty and students to integrate Special Collections and University Archives into curriculum development and student life.
