Jackson Library Spaces
The Library renovation is almost here! At 5:00 p.m. on Friday, December 13, 2024, the Jackson Library tower will close and all of its books will be moved off-site for 18 months. The older, brick part of the library will remain open and all services will be available. More Details
The Libraries provide options for quiet and group work and technologies to assist with work, collaboration, and digital project creation. Some spaces are available on a first come, first serve basis while others are reservable by UNCG students, faculty, and staff. Wireless connection is available in most spaces.
Reserve Spaces
Reservable Spaces are available for UNCG students, faculty, and staff. UNCG computing credentials are required to make reservations.
Small Student Study Rooms are available on Tower floors 2, 3, 5 and 6. Rooms on Tower floor 2 contain PCs with double monitors while those on floors 3, 5 and 6 are bring your own equipment.
Medium Group Spaces are available on Tower floors 2, 3 and 4. Spaces on floors 2 and 3 include flat-screen monitors with HDMI cords. All of these spaces are bring your own equipment.
Large Group Spaces are available on Tower floors 2, 3 and 9. The spaces on floors 2 and 3 include flat-screen monitors with HDMI cords. All of these spaces are bring your own equipment.
The DMC rooms and equipment are available to reserve for digital project creation.
Digital Media Commons (DMC)
Located in the lower level of Jackson Library, the DMC provides the space and resources for UNCG students, faculty, and staff to create and refine their multimedia projects. The DMC also supports the creation of digital media projects with equipment lending and studio/workspaces including the reservable DMC Via Lab and Media Rooms.
Quiet Study Spaces
Tower floors 6-9 are designated as quiet study floors. They offer whiteboards, tables, booths, carrels, and other seating conducive to quiet study on a first come, first served basis. There should be no group study or loud conversations; cell phone ringers should be turned off, and headphones turned down. Small Student Study Rooms without PCs are available to reserve on the 6th floor.
Group Study Areas
Tower floors 2-5, the lower level Tower elevator lobby, and the Jackson Library Information Commons, CITI Lab, Reading Room, and Reference Room located on the first floor are designated as group study areas. They offer whiteboards, tables, carrels, and other seating conducive to group study along with PCs with a mix of double and wide screen monitors. All spaces are available on a first come, first served basis. The CITI Lab, containing PCs, is open for individual use when not being used for classes. Many Small, Medium, and Large group study spaces are available to reserve on several floors in the Tower.
Other Spaces
The Julia Cameron Trice Alcove was dedicated in 2009. Renovating the Alcove was made possible by a donation from Brandon Rea Bensley (MLS UNCG, 2000) in honor of her grandmother, Julia Cameron Trice, a 1943 graduate of Woman’s College (now UNCG) and Home Economics major.
The Trice Alcove provides an attractive traditional study space with a variety of seating and wireless connectivity for contemporary research. The area also displays posters from the Robert C. Hansen Performing Arts Collection.
Jackson Library Tower Room 570 is a private space for students, employees, and visitors to pump or to breastfeed/chestfeed a baby. (Note: parents or caretakers may also breastfeed/chestfeed babies in other areas of Jackson Library if they choose.)
Request the key at the Checkout Desk. Please check the Jackson Library operating hours prior to your visit.
This room contains the following:
- A hospital-grade Medela Symphony pump. Users must supply their own Symphony pump kit (kits for Medela home pumps such as the Pump in Style are not compatible with hospital-grade pumps).
- Hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes.
- Wireless Internet access.
There is no sink in the room. Restrooms are located along the back wall of the tower.
For your safety, and safety of others:
- Don’t use this room if you suspect that you are sick or have been in contact with anyone with suspected/confirmed COVID-19.
- Don’t share the room with others – except for your babies/children.
- Use good hand hygiene before and after pumping:
- Wash your hands for at least 20 seconds, in the restrooms located along the back wall of the tower.
- Use the available hand sanitizer in the room.
- Wipe surfaces that you and your belongings touch before and after you use the room, including:
- The counter, chair, and doorknob (both sides).
- If you use the Medela Symphony pump, follow the instructions for wiping it.
- Be mindful of the amount of hand sanitizer and wipes that you use:
- Do not remove any supplies from the room.
- If supplies run out, look for the disinfecting wipes dispenser near the elevator and notify the Checkout Desk: 336.334.5304 or [email protected].
Please limit your visit to 60 minutes:
- This room should remain empty for at least 30 minutes between different users.

A Sorenson Videophone is available in Jackson Library in room 263 on the second floor of the tower. The key for room 263 is available at the Check Out Desk on the first floor. Use of the videophone is free.

UNCG students, faculty, and staff may check out a locker, free of charge, for the current academic term – fall, spring, or summer. Lockers are limited to one per person. Combination locks are provided for the lockers; personal locks are not allowed. Requests for lockers are processed starting on the first day of classes in each semester. Requests are not processed between semesters. View locker policies.
Lockers are located in the EUC-Library Connector and on selected tower floors.

To retain a locker for the next term – near the end of the current term renew it online via My Library Account or it in person at the Check Out Desk. Lockers are otherwise cleared by library staff at the end of each term. Please be sure to clear lockers by the due dates.
The Academic Achievement Center, operated by the Division of Student Success, provides course-based peer tutoring, and individualized academic success coaching to assist with studying and time management techniques. In addition to appointment-based support, the AAC also facilitates Outreach Workshops on Learning Skills (OWLS) to the campus community, and also runs the University Proctoring Lab.
