Abstract

Matthew Gilmore charges his wife, Hanora Gilmore, with adultery. He complains that on 3 September 1860 "she abandoned him taking with her their youngest child" whom she left "with Some free negroes" in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Matthew states that his wife "is now residing in Nashville in the State of Tennessee & is living in a State of adultery & lewdness." The petitioner seeks a divorce from the defendant and the custody of their three children.
