Abstract

Edward Watts, as administrator for estate of the late William Philips, possessed the slave Will, a blacksmith, deemed to have a $2,000 value. However, he "casually lost" the slave, who ended up in the possession of Collin Alford "by finding." Watts alleges that Alford knew that the slave belonged to him, but "converted said negro man to his own use to the damage of your petitioner administrator as aforesaid five thousand dollars."

Result: Partially granted; appealed; reversed; nonsuit.
