Samuel Miller asks for the emancipation of Martha Tyler, a slave about thirty years old. He states that he is aware "that the inclination of the public is somewhat opposed to the grant of such privilege" but hopes that the legislature will pass an act of "benevolence and Kindness to a servant endeared to him by years of faithful servitude." In addition, Miller states that he is growing old and recognizes his time is limited.
