Petitioning by his father Peter Hammond, Robert, an "Infant," explains that his father purchased him for "a certain Sum of Money" and afterwards "manumited your Said Petitioner in due Form of Law." Now, however, William Hazzard "claims and detains" him as a slave. Robert asks the court to summon Hazzard so that he can prove "that the Said William Hazzard has no Right or Title to claim, hold or detain him as his Slave."
