The Colonization Society of Virginia calls on the legislature to support the colonization of free people of color to West Africa. The Society argues that the colonization of Liberia has been successful and is very much necessary as the presence of "this class of people among us," they say in reference to emancipated slaves, "is a positive evil." Returning free people of color to Africa, therefore, would be a "noble enterprize."
