Following the sudden and unexpected death of slave owner Benjamin Harrison Esq., Nick Scott, Harrison's body servant, seeks to be emancipated and remain in Virginia. It was his owner's wish that he be freed, and the owner's son, also Benjamin Harrison Esq., is supportive of his request. Scott contends that he has conducted himself properly and can earn a living by "honest industry." He has a family in Buckingham County.
