Petition #11584201

Abstract

Migrating to the Republic during the struggle for independence, Henry Tucker, a free man of color, was promised residency under the existing laws. Having "expended what little means he brought with him to this country in procuring himself a home," he laments that "should he now be forced to leave the country he would be totally ruined." He asks to remain in the Republic. Nine citizens attest to Tucker's character and they "most respectfully recommend him to your honorable bodies as one of those class of individuals who in our opinion is entitled to relief."
