Abstract
Amos Stayton seeks to have twenty-five-year-old slave owner Nathaniel Pointer declared a lunatic and to have a trustee appointed to manage his estate. From the time of his birth, Stayton explains, Pointer has been deaf and dumb. Pointer is entitled to a seven-year-old male slave named Beniah, who must serve until he is twenty-five years old.
