Petition #20185537

Abstract

In a cross-bill to William Brewer's 1854 divorce suit on the grounds of adultery, Jane C. Brewer argues that it was her husband who failed in their marriage. On one occasion, "in a fit of jealousy," he seized a gun and threatened to shoot her, Jane explained, and probably would have except for the "timely arrival of some of their neighbors." She asks for a divorce as well as permission to keep the property left to her by her mother and her late first husband. She also requests "such other and further and general relief as to your Honor shall seem meet."

Result: Dismissed.
