Abstract

Susannah Thatcher states that "some time in March last a rape was committed on her by a negro man named Jessee the property of J L Boyd, which negro was tried & convicted & punished with death." She further asserts that the Court of Magistrates and Freeholders ordered that one-half of the slave's value be paid to her. Thatcher therefore prays "the payment thereof by your Honbl Body."
