Timeline and Process

The construction environment is currently extremely volatile because of supply chain issues and high costs related to COVID and the war in Ukraine. Therefore, this timetable is not set in stone and may be subject to change.

  • The campus selected the architect and design firm LS3P, a company with significant experience designing libraries and other academic buildings in the Carolinas. Their name may sound familiar; they worked on UNCG's new Nursing and Instructional Building.
  • Late Summer and Fall 2022 - Priority setting phase
In Fall 2022, the designer and the Libraries met with student, faculty, staff, and administrative groups to solicit feedback on design priorities.
  • Summer 2023 - Advanced Planning Report finalized
  • Fall 2023 - Schematic Design Phase concludes
  • Spring 2024 - All design work completed
  • February 2025 - Construction begins
Project goes out to bid and construction begins soon after. Jackson Library WILL remain open throughout the construction, but parts will be closed at any given time. While the tower is closed to the public, staff can retrieve items from the stacks upon request.
  • December 2027 - Project completed

For a more detailed timeline see the end of the Executive Summary of the Advanced Planning Report.
