Timeline and Process

The construction environment is currently extremely volatile because of supply chain issues and high costs related to COVID and the war in Ukraine. Therefore, this timetable is not set in stone and may be subject to change.

  • The campus has recently selected the architect and design firm LS3P, a company with significant experience designing libraries and other academic buildings in the Carolinas. Their name may sound familiar; they worked on UNCG's new Nursing and Instructional Building.
  • Late Summer and Fall 2022 - Priority setting phase
In Fall 2022, the designer and the Libraries will begin meeting with student, faculty, staff, and administrative groups to solicit feedback on design priorities. This phase could last as long as 1.5 years.
  • Spring 2024 - Design finalized
  • Summer 2024 - Construction begins
Project goes out to bid and construction begins soon after. Jackson Library WILL remain open throughout the construction, but parts will be closed at any given time. At this time we do not know how or if our print collections will be available while work is being performed on tower floors.
  • Summer 2027 - Project completed
