Over the course of the 2025 calendar year, a great deal of progress has been made inside the Jackson Library tower. We have shared updates related to demolition, abatement, and other developments. During this past week, the work became more visible to those on campus. Several of the precast concrete panels on the western side of the tower were removed, and the change in the building’s iconic facade is very dramatic. These panels are similar to the vinyl siding used on many homes. The first set of panels were taken off at the height of the first and second levels. This was an important step toward creating what is tentatively being referred to as “The Perch,” which will be a study space overlooking Walker Avenue. A new (and fully accessible) western entrance plaza will also be built. More panel removals will follow, with plans to add large windows on the fourth, sixth, eighth, and ninth floors. The images below show the impacted areas on the first and second levels, and the rendering below shows what the plaza will eventually look like.
