This week, Renovation Review takes us on a trip to check on the library’s print collection in Columbia, South Carolina. Our Facility Manager recently had a chance to visit the location where the collection is stored and to speak with the vendor about the latest updates related to the Jackson Library renovation. The books are all staged together in a safe and dry warehouse where they are organized by letters corresponding to their Library of Congress classifications. Library staff are continuing to plan for the return of the print collection, including new shelving locations in the renovated tower. Until then, users can continue to use our excellent interlibrary loan services and can take advantage of the thousands of print books still available in the “Main” library building (College Avenue side). UNCG users can also borrow print materials from many different colleges and universities, and public library services are an excellent alternative option. Additionally, the UNCG University Libraries offer more than 1.5 million e-books that patrons are encouraged to use.
