My Mother's Sabbath Days: A Memoir

In this memoir, the great Yiddish author Chaim Grade wrote about his mother and the close-knit Jewish community of Vilna, both of which he lost in the Holocaust. The book changed my life in the way that it depicted the aching beauty and fragility of everyday life and the powerful love of parents for their children.
