Women into the Unknown: A Sourcebook on Women Explorers and Travelers
by Marion Tinling
Much of the research on which my scholarship is based occurs abroad, across China and Tibet to India and Bhutan. Even in the late 20th-early 21st century that requires a great deal of preliminary training and planning, as well as no small amount of courage and determination. Tinling's book is a classic account of women who since the Victorian era filled in the blank spaces on the map by pioneering all over the globe. Given UNCG's history, it seems particularly fitting to dedicate this encouragment to dare and dream, break boundaries and cross borders for the increase and diffusion of knowledge.
