Philanthropist George Foster Peabody gave the College $10,000 to create an education park on the northern part of the campus. President Charles Duncan McIver earmarked $5,000 to develop the park, and the Board of Directors named it Peabody Park.

Laura Coit began her long career on campus as college secretary and general assistant to the president.
