SUMMARY:Webinar: Governance Indexes with Rachel Olsen
DESCRIPTION:Governance indexes are composite measures that assess how effectively institutions govern\, based on political\, legal\, and administrative indicators. These unique sources of information can be extremely useful but are also complicated and sometimes controversial. In this session\, we will look at several different examples of governance indexes (as well as other index types) and also discuss how to evaluate and cite these tools. No matter what your level of familiarity with this type of source might be\, you are invited to join us and learn more. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nFree and open to all UNCG students\, faculty\, and staff. Click here to sign up.

SUMMARY:Webinar: New AI-Powered Tools for Scholarly Literature Discovery with Steve Cramer
DESCRIPTION:Learn about some of the AI-augmented databases for research discovery and citation analysis. Examples include Scite\, Research Rabbit\, Consensus\, Undermind\, and Elicit. These tools allow researchers to search by semantics (concepts)\, map scholarly networks\, provide context for citations\, and/or evaluate citation patterns. How useful – and appropriate — are these tools for literature reviews? How do they compare to older tools like Google Scholar\, EBSCO\, and ProQuest? And are they worth your money? (Note: I have full access to Scite\, but will use free versions of the other products.) \nRegister by clicking here. \nFree and open to all UNCG students\, staff\, faculty\, alumni\, and donors.

SUMMARY:Webinars Worth Watching Final Round
DESCRIPTION:Virtual programming and presentations\, such as webinars\, are becoming more and more common in education and the workforce. But how many webinars have you been to that are boring\, where you end up browsing the Internet? Graduate students need to be able to present their work and research digitally\, as well as communicate the information effectively and quickly within the virtual programming tool.\ \nThe UNCG Graduate School and UNCG University Libraries will have a competition for face-to-face and online graduate students to determine who can give the most effective webinar or virtual presentation in 10 minutes. We will put out a call for proposals to all of the graduate programs and select students to compete. Over 1 week\, the competition will run virtual webinar sessions of multiple students in each session\, with 3-4 finalists selected based on a rubric. At the end of the week\, we will have one virtual session of 3-4 students and declare a winner. \nThe competition will run the last week of February 16-20\, with the finals landing on: \nFriday\, February 20\, 2026 at 2pm EST. \nRegistration for finals coming in February 2026!

SUMMARY:Webinar: AI Assistants in Academic Databases (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) with Steve Cramer and H. Blake-Lee
DESCRIPTION:Scholarly publishers are adding AI tools to many products that the UNCG Libraries funds for the campus. Most of these AI tools provide RAG (retrieval-augmented generation)\, which apply large language model semantic capabilities to a specific\, closed set of scholarly information and data. Learn which library subscriptions currently offer RAG AI tools\, how they work\, and what value they add for our students and faculty. \nFree and open to all UNCG students\, faculty\, and staff.
