This week, more of the pre-cast concrete panels that make up the iconic 1973 facade of the Jackson Library tower were removed. This is an exciting development. The tower is being re-imagined in a number of different ways, and the removal of these panels is a major step toward making the space more open, well-lit, and inviting for library patrons. The gaps left by the panels will be converted into new windows overlooking the western side of campus. The lower gaps on the first and second floor will become a new overlook that is tentatively being called “The Perch” and a new accessible entrance. Though the work of the renovation has been happening for years now, we are excited that the campus community is able to see the progress being made from the outside of the building.
