Jackson Library Renovation FAQs
Yes! Jackson Library WILL REMAIN OPEN throughout the renovation, even as our service and study spaces are temporarily reduced as other areas are being renovated.
The library is expected to fully reopen in 2028 when both phases of the renovation are complete.
- Phase 1 of the renovation (the Tower) is expected to run through late 2026, after which the full circulating stacks collection will be returned to the library.
- Phase 2 of the renovation (the Main building facing College Avenue) is expected to run from early 2027 to early 2028.
You are welcome to study in the library (unfortunately we have no quiet study areas at this time). We have over 500 seats for student study with additional seating recently added to the existing spaces on the first floor and to the new Spartan Study Spot on the second floor.
Please visit the Places to Study or Work During the Jackson Library Renovation guide for more details.
Yes! There are three small group study rooms (up to 4 people) that can be reserved on the first floor to the left of the Checkout Desk.
Additionally, the DMC‘s reservable spaces (VIA labs, media rooms, etc.) are all still available.
There are two entrances to the library:
- The Jarrell Hall (LIB 032) entrance – between Jackson Library and the EUC (near the swing set) – which is fully accessible.
- The portico entrance facing College Ave (near the McIver statue).
Yes! All are located in the same spaces they were in the Fall 2024 semester.

Single user restrooms are located in the back of the Reference Room and the Reading Room on the first floor, and in the back of the DMC on the lower level. These single user restrooms may not be accessible for larger mobility devices. Ask at any service desk for directions.
An additional Men’s Room is located in the lower level at the bottom of the main staircase.
Yes! Look for directional signs posted throughout the library.
On the lower level, the elevator can be found in the middle of the DMC – it takes you to all floors of the main building.
On the first floor, the elevator is to the right of the Check Out Desk, around the corner.
On the second floor, the elevator is to the right of the Hodges Reading Room, just down the narrow corridor.
Yes! You are still welcome to use the Express Machines on the first floor and the guest computer in the DMC for more in-depth research needs (with a time limit of one hour).
You can still join the Community Borrower Program to check out materials, but be aware of our limited print resources to borrow at this time.
Guest printing is still available on the first floor.
Questions can be directed to checkout@uncg.edu or 336.334.5304.
There are still some books located in Jackson Library! Other parts of the collection are in on-campus storage and can be retrieved for use. The rest of the collection is in off-site storage and will be unavailable until the Tower reopens in 2026.
Lots of different ways, which are all free to you!
- Take advantage of the millions of e-books that we have access to. E-books can be accessed from anywhere with an internet connection, including off campus.
- Borrow from other libraries! Many nearby college and university libraries allow UNCG ID Card holders to borrow materials. But be sure to read through the information before you go!
- Use our Interlibrary Loan service to request book from other libraries worldwide.
