Carrels and Lockers

Carrels

Selected open study carrels, located on the north side of the eight stack levels of the library tower, may be checked out by UNCG students and faculty requiring space for research purposes. Carrels are checked out for the academic term...Fall, Spring, or Summer.

All library materials left in carrels must be checked out to the carrel at the Check Out Desk. They are loaned for the academic term and are fine exempt. A carrel loan slip is placed in each item to identify it as being charged to a specific carrel; each slip must remain with its item. If a carrel holder wishes to take a carrel book from the building, it must be recharged to the carrel holder's personal account at the Check Out Desk.

Carrel loan items are subject to recall after the first three weeks of being checked out, or immediately if recalled for course reserves. Recalled items will be removed carrels by library staff; carrel users will be notified when material is removed.

Items charged for use outside of the building, as well as any personal materials or items of value, should not be left in carrels.

Carrels are checked regularly by the staff. Any items not checked out to the carrel or Building Use Only materials (such as bound journals) will be removed and reshelved. The Library is not responsible for personal property or overdue books left in carrels.

To retain your carrel for next term, renew it online using Renew Item/My Account or at the Check Out Desk. Carrels are otherwise cleared by library staff at the end of each term.

If you do not wish to retain your carrel for the next term, simply clear it by the due date.

Lockers

UNCG students, faculty, and staff may check out a locker for the academic term- Fall, Spring, or Summer- at the Check Out Desk. Lockers are limited to one per person; contents are checked regularly by library staff.

Overdue and recalled books, unchecked out books, and Building Use Only materials may not be stored in lockers, and if found, will be removed.  Food and drink stored in lockers must be in sealed containers, and if not, will be removed.

To retain your locker for next term, renew it online using Renew Item/My Account or at the Access Services Desk. Lockers are otherwise cleared by library staff at the end of each term.

If you do not wish to retain your locker for the next term, simply clear it by the due date.
