Toussaint Guillaume, a free man of color, presents to the court that he is the owner of his two children, Marie Catherine and Jean François, the latter also known as François George. He further presents that he wishes to emancipate them so as to be "able to give them some education." He asks the court to order that the "proper notices" be posted up "as the law directs," so that he may emancipate his two children after having obtained "leave" from the police jury.
