Petition #20882528

Abstract

Margarite Brasseur seeks a separation of property from her husband, François Richard. Margarite represents that, at the time of her marriage to Richard, she owned a slave named Babé, “two gentle horses,” forty horned cattle, and “ten head of horse creatures,” amounting in value to $500. She now informs the court “that from the failing circumstances and pecuniary embarrassments of her said husband she is apprehensive that her aforesaid dotal effects are in danger of being sacrificed and lost.” Therefore, Margarite prays that the court grant her a separation of property from Richard.
