Celeste Verger petitions for separation of bed and board from her husband, Auguste Langlois. Celeste contends that, since their 1796 marriage, Langlois "has followed an irregular course of life, getting intoxicated & insulting" her "in various ways and otherwise illtreating her, without any cause." She also charges that, at various times, he kept a woman slave as a concubine "in the common house & cohabitated with her to the great scandal of your petitioner." Celeste asks for a separation of bed and board "to protect herself" from her husband’s insults. In addition, she asks for custody of her minor children and that Langlois pay her $30 per month until the case has been decided.
