Abstract

Julia Sharp, widow of Etienne Chiasson, requests an inventory of her husband's estate. She informs the court that her five children "are entitled" to half of the estate "by virtue of their rights of inheritance" from their father. Sharp asks that a guardian be appointed for the children and that an inventory be drawn up of the community property. The related inventory reveals that the estate included fifteen slaves.
