Robert Lang and other heirs of Richard Lang ask the court for a settlement and division of the estate. They claim that under the management of Mary J. P. Lang, widow and administratrix of Richard Lang, the "estate has largely depreciated in value ... for want of a proper person to manage the same" and that only with great difficulty has the defendant been able to have "the slaves Kept in Subordination and control." The petitioners also request an accounting of advancements received by various heirs before their father's death so that an equitable division of assets can be made.
