Petition #20585212
- St. Johns County, Florida. March 15, 1852. - June 12, 1854.
- Court: Circuit
- Salutation: To the Hon. Thomas Douglas, Judge of the Circuit Court for the Eastern Circuit of Florida
Abstract
Venancio Sanchez states that Cornelius Dupont borrowed fifty dollars from him, using a slave boy, John, as security; Dupont also owes Sanchez $250 for "provisions, clothing and other articles" he received from Sanchez's store. Informing the court that Sabina Dupont, the wife of Cornelius, claims that John belongs to her, the petitioner asserts that she had no rights to the boy at the time of the mortgage and asks the court to issue an injunction against the Duponts and Sabina's father, Manuel Crespo, to prevent them from removing the boy from the jurisdiction of the court. He also requests that the six-year-old slave be sold and that he be paid from the proceeds of the sale.
Result: Granted.
