Petition #20584910

Abstract

William J. Way and William King, partners operating as Way and King in Savannah, Georgia, petition the court for assistance in collecting a debt. They explain that Lewis C. Gaines and Mary A. J. Gaines promised to pay the partners $1505 by February 1849, mortgaging three slaves, Jess, Armstead, and Henry, to secure the debt. Way and King say that the Gaineses have failed to satisfy the debt. They ask the court to subpoena Lewis and Mary Gaines and to order them to repay the debt or surrender their rights to the mortgaged slaves.

Result: Dismissed.
