Richard Hayward asks the court to foreclose on the mortgage made to him by William and Mary Carter. The Carters borrowed $216 from him, offering the slaves Cupid, Nancy, and Lucinda as security. Declaring that the debt has yet to be discharged, Hayward prays that "all persons ... may be forever foreclosed and barred of and from their ... rights or equity of redemption in the said negroes."
Result: Dismissed.
