Petition #20382205

Abstract

Eight residents of Kent County seek authorization to "dispose" of Martin Dehorty to any person in Delaware or elsewhere. They contend that Dehorty is "a negro of infamous character" and "has been a great annoyance to the neighbourhood generally by stealing and seducing the negroes and servants of the neighbours into the commission of crime." Dehorty was sentenced to be sold "as a servant for the term of three years." On 25 May 1822 William Yates paid $206 for Dehorty's term of servitude.
