General Petition Information

Abstract:Stevens Woolford states that in 1816 he married Cassey Waples, a Virginia woman who had inherited four slaves from her grandmother, Cassey Custus. He recounts that he and his wife have spent the last eleven years moving between the states of Maryland and Virginia and that, at present, Milley and her two sons are in Virginia and Charles is in Maryland. Woolford, a resident of Delaware for the past two years, "is now desirous of uniting with his Family here, the said negroes." He therefore prays that a law be passed "authorising him to remove into this State, from the said States of Maryland and Virginia, the said negroes."
