Hannah Baltimore, a free woman of color, states that her husband, Thomas Baltimore, a free man of color, "is a man of violent habits, uncontrollable passions and dangerous to live with." The petitioner fears for her life. Hannah states that, in January 1863, Thomas "inflicted a severe wound on your Petitioner by cutting her head." She asks for a divorce "from the bed and board of the said Thomas Baltimore" as well as the custody and guardianship of her two children, Jeremiah and Charles.
