Eighty-six citizens of Greene County pray that Joshua Hall, a free man of color, have the "priviledge of proving by his own oath, when he cant by any other person, his account." They cite that the said Hall "pays Tax ... he does military Duty ... he performed a Tour of duty during the late War with credit to himself & lastly because We believe him to be an honest man."
