Petition #20485108

Abstract

Robert M. T. Hunter states that Benjamin Coghill died in 1843, shortly after writing his last will and testament. The will empowered Hunter as a trustee and charged him with emancipating two slave children, Isaiah and Rachel Anne as well as their mother, Rachel. The will also set aside $1,000 to be applied to the care, benefit, and education of the two emancipated children. Hunter shows that he moved the two children and their mother to Washington, but that it is now difficult for him to act as trustee from the state of Virginia. He asks the court to discharge him from the office and to appoint a suitable person as his substitute.
