Petition #11381727

Abstract

Wyett and Robert Lipscomb represent that they purchased a tract of land in Spartanburg District "with a view of Settling and Residing Permenently" in South Carolina. The Lipscombs further disclose that they have twenty slaves which they "wish to bring into the state for the sole purpose of cultivating and improving the Said Land." Citing that amongst said slaves are "excellent Tanners," the petitioners propose "to Erect a Tanyard and to Carray on the Manufacturing of Leather as Extensively as the Situation of the Place and Circumstances of the Country will admit." They therefore pray that their "Particular Situation" be considered and that they be permitted "to bring into this State the aforesaid Number of Twenty Negroes to in able us to Carray our aforesaid views into effect."
