Petition #21386323

Abstract

The petitioners request the partition of the late George W. Dargan's estate. George Dargan died in 1859, and the administration of his property at "Elysian Fields" fell to Julius Dargan. However, Julius Dargan died before he completed his work as executor. Margaret Elizabeth Dargan, widow of George Dargan, also died in 1860. The administration of all of these estates remains incomplete although three of the defendants have recently taken out letters of administration for the respective estates. The petitioners as well as William P. Dargan and Julius Edwin Dargan are all legal heirs of George and Margaret Elizabeth Dargan, and they ask the court to compel the new administrators to complete their work. A subsequent commissioners' report reveals how George W. Dargan's 125 slaves, livestock, crops, and plantation equipment were distributed among his four heirs.
