Petition #11280303

Abstract

Six residents of Guilford and Stokes counties "earnestly pray your honourable Body to take ... under Consideration" the emancipation of two slaves, whom they describe as "Sober, quiet orderly and industrious." They explain that James Love Sr. "was desirous that after his death" that Aaron and Magg be liberated as they had "particularly distinguished themselves by their Sympathetic kindness and gentle treatment in his last long and afflicting illness." Noting that Aaron and Magg were "good Obedient Slaves towards a generous, aged, debilitated and dying Master," the petitioners pray that "if it should appear to your Wisdom expedient to carry the intention of the said James Love into effect, that you would liberate the Said Aaron by the name of Aaron Moses and Magg by that of Mary Magdalene."
