DVD Selection Policy

The primary purpose of the DVD collection at the University Libraries at UNCG is to provide films for the entertainment of the UNCG community.
User Groups
Primary- Current UNCG students, faculty, and staff
Secondary- Community and NonUNCG borrowers
Format/Scope
We will collect only DVDs in regions 0 or 1, NTSC format.
Languages
DVD titles in all languages are collected, with preference given to titles in English or with English captions or subtitles.
Selection Tools
The selectors rely on a variety of tools to assist with the selection process, including:
- Standing order
- Awards and film festivals including:
- The A List: The National Society of Film Critics' 100 Essential Films
- AFI, 100 years ... lists: http://www.afi.com/100years/
- AFI, 100 Years, 100 Movies: America's Greatest Movies
- AFI's Funniest Films of All Time
- Los Angeles Film Festival Honored Titles
- Independent Spirit Awards
- Cannes Film Festival
- Sundance Film Festival
- Academy Award Nominated Films (Best Picture, Animated Feature Film, Documentary (Feature), Foreign Language Film)
- Suggestions from users
- Selections from the suggestion box will be evaluated by the DVD Ordering Group on an ongoing basis.
- Staff at the service desks will forward to the DVD Ordering Group any titles that have been requested at the service desks. These will be evaluated on an ongoing basis.

The films purchased for the collection are licensed for personal, non-commercial use only and are not meant to be viewed by large groups, except for course-related purposes.
