AirMedia Instructions

MAKE SURE YOUR DEVICE IS CONNECTED TO THE EDUROAM NETWORK!

What exactly is AirMedia?

AirMedia is a piece of hardware attached to a display monitor or television that allows you to wirelessly connect your laptop or mobile device to said display. Once it is connected what you see on your device’s screen will also be broadcast directly to the display.

Where are the AirMedia’s located?

We have AirMedia’s located on both the second and third floor of the library tower as well as the DMC, which is located in the lower level.

What kind of devices work for AirMedia?

You can use any Windows, iOS or Android device to connect to AirMedia. Please make sure that your device has the most-recent version of its operating system.

I’m seeing the three-step directions on the screen but do you have more detailed directions that I can use?

Yes, we do! Here you go:

From iPad or iPhone:

  1. Make sure the device is connected to the eduroam wireless network.
  2. Download the Crestron AirMedia App
  3. Connect to the AirMedia device (e.g. tc3-av03.uncg.edu)
  4. Tap on the Screen Mirroring button in Control Center (this is different based upon the iOS version)
  5. Enter the four-digit code on the screen.

From Android Devices:

  1. Make sure the device is connected to the “eduroam” wireless network.
  2. Download the Crestron AirMedia App from the app store.
  3. In the URL, type from the help screen the http://[address], then select “PRESENT WITH AIRMEDIA.”
  4. AirMedia App will ask for a 4-digit code which is underneath the VISIT http address on the screen.
  5. To stop displaying from your device to the AirMedia app but not disconnect from it, select “STOP PRESENTATION WITH AIRMEDIA.”
  6. To completely stop using the AirMedia application, select on the AirMedia menu “DISCONNET FROM AIRMEDIA.”

From Mac: (running High Sierra)

  1. Make sure the device is connected to the eduroam wireless network. Laptops checked out from the Access Services desk will connect to the GCN wireless network by default.
  2. Open the URL shown in the lower left corner of the screen in a browser.
  3. Bypass the warnings for the certificates.
  4. Click the “Client for Mac” under Download AirMedia Utility Software
  5. Download and install the Crestron AirMedia application.
  6. Enter the hostname of the AirMedia in the search box
  7. Follow the directions in the application
  • Click the AirPlay menu in the system bar (usually near the WiFi connection indicator or the clock in the upper-right corner)
  • Find the IP address of the receiver name shown in the Crestron AirMedia application
  • Select that IP address
  • Type in the four-digit code shown on the screen
If the AirPlay menu disappears, click ‘Back’ in the Crestron AirMedia application, and reconnect to the device.

From a Windows laptop:

  1. Make sure your operating system is up to date and that your device is connected to the UNCG eduroam network.
  2. Go to the web address in the bottom left-hand corner of the display (e.g. tc2-av05.uncg.edu)
  3. Download the AirMedia Utility Software by clicking the Client for Windows button and run the downloaded .exe file.
  4. The AirMedia software will run. After a few seconds, you will be asked to enter the code for the AirMedia device, which will show up as an IP address (e.g. 152.13.186.159). Key in the four-digit code on the bottom left-hand corner of the display and click ok.
  5. This will bring up a Crestron AirMedia control box as well as connecting your Windows laptop to the display. You should now see a mirrored image of your laptop display on the wall-mounted screen. When you are done, simply click “Stop” in the AirMedia control box. This will disconnect your laptop from the display.

Reconnecting to an AirMedia device

  1. Navigate to the location on your laptop where this file now lives and run it. A typical place will be your download folder.
  2. The AirMedia might try to reconnect to the last AirMedia device you connected to. Simply press “cancel” if it does. This will bring up the AirMedia control box again.
  3. Click connections then connect. Key in the address for the machine located on the bottom left-hand corner of the display. MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT USE THE "HTTP://"PART OF THE ADDRESS. (E.G. Type in tc2-av05.uncg.edu NOT http://tc2-av05.uncg.edu)
  4. Key in the four-digit code located in the bottom left corner of the display to connect. When you are done simply click “Stop” in the AirMedia control box.

Can I use a wired connection instead of a wireless connection?

Yes, you can! We have four AirMedia units that allow a wired HDMI connection. These are located in collaboratory 2C and 2D on the second floor in the tower and 3C and 3D on the third floor in the tower. Simply plug one of the HDMI cables that are located in the center of the table into the HDMI port on your device and then press the button that is located just above the plug in. The active device should be indicated by a blue circle around the button. Unplugging the HDMI cable will allow the AirMedia to be used wirelessly again.

Why can’t I wirelessly connect the library laptop I checked out to an AirMedia device?

Unfortunately, because of restrictions in place on the UNCG wireless network, this isn’t possible. However, you can still connect a library laptop to certain AirMedia devices using an HDMI cable. See the “Can I use a wired connection instead of a wireless connection?” section above for more info!

Is it okay to unplug the HDMI cable going into the television, so I can plug my device directly into the TV? I really want to see what my Nintendo Switch looks like on a 92” display!

While we appreciate video games as much as the next person, we ask that you do not unplug any cables running into or out of the television. This can make the AirMedia device connected to the television stop working. We also ask that you not change the input on the television. Basically don’t touch the television at all. That way the person that uses the space after you is able to use the AirMedia device. Also, don’t steal the HDMI cables. That’s not cool. It’s also an Academic Integrity Violation: Misuse of Academic Resources.

I’ve followed the directions on the screen and this FAQ, but I just can’t get my device connected wirelessly to the AirMedia device. Can I get some help?
