The Art of Happiness
by the Dalai Lama and Howard C. Cutler
This book was the product of conversations between a western-trained psychologist and an eastern-trained Buddhist. It has been very meaningful to me as a way to broaden my world view about what it means to be happy, and to spend some time in the virtual company of the Dalai Lama, an amazing and inspiring human being. A representative quote is "So let us reflect on what is truly of value in life, what gives meaning to our lives, and set our priorities on the basis of that. The purpose of our life needs to be positive. We weren't born with the purpose of causing trouble, harming others. For our life to be of value, we must develop the qualities of warmth, kindness, compassion - then our life becomes more peaceful and happier."
