Publicly Engaged Scholars: Next-Generation Engagement and the Future of Higher Education
Edited by Margaret A. Post, Elaine Ward, Nicholas V. Longo, and John Saltmarsh

The next generation of faculty may be looking not to “make it” in the academy, but rather, to “remake” the academy (Rhoads, Kiyama, McCormick and Quiroz (2008). My work has focused on how to build an institutional culture in which community engagement is valued by faculty, staff, students, and administration. This book advances the discussion of new models of professionals in the academy through the portrayal of voices, theory and scholarship of the next generation of engagement scholars. I eagerly anticipate a transformed higher education culture and system in which scholars, staff, administrators, students, and community members tread back and forth across, between, and among disciplines, roles, contexts, and circumstances to address the pressing issues and needs of our times.
