Job Description

  • Department: Access Services Department, Jackson Library
  • Hourly Pay Rate: starting pay $7.60/hr
  • Work Schedule: shifts available 8:00 am – midnight Monday – Thursday; 8:00 am – 10 pm Friday; 10 am – 10 pm Saturday; 10 am – midnight Sunday
  • Hours per week: dependent upon work study award
  • Employment Start Date: August 2012

Responsibilities:

Digital Media Commons Library Assistants provide front line customer service and digital media support to library patrons in the new Digital Media Commons (DMC), Jackson Library. DMC Library Assistants work collaboratively with DMC staff from the UNCG Writing Center, Speaking Center, and Media Studies Department. Assistants provide a wide range of services, including: basic video and sound editing, graphics creation and layout, document and image scanning and manipulation, word processing and formatting, presentation layout and formatting, equipment scheduling and setup, basic software and hardware troubleshooting.

DMC Library Assistants may be trained additionally to work on the Checkout Desk. Desk duties include checking material out and in, assisting users in locating materials, and providing assistance and service for computer and photocopier/scanner equipment. On the job training is provided. Business casual attire and closed toed shoes are required.

Qualifications:

MUST HAVE WORK STUDY AWARD. Successful candidates should possess a proactive customer service philosophy, be able to work independently and on a team, follow verbal and written directions, and work with varying amounts of supervision. Successful candidates should have sound, demonstrable knowledge of Microsoft Word, Publisher, PowerPoint, and Movie Maker. Experience using Adobe Premiere, Photoshop, and Illustrator are preferred. Must be able to stand, stoop, and lift a minimum of 10 pounds above head. Must be able to push and pull up to 40 pounds.
