Scheduling a Class Visit
Are Special Collections and University Archives relevant to your teaching? We encourage University faculty and graduate students to incorporate Special Collections’ resources into their teaching. Our staff welcomes the use of our materials by classes and individual students as well as the opportunity to give customized presentations to classes. Your classes can meet in the Hodges Reading Room and use our collections, or we can meet with your classes and provide an introduction to using our resources in class assignments.
If you are interested in scheduling a class session in Special Collections and University Archives, designing an assignment using our collections, referring students to our collections, or seeing if whether Special Collections and University Archives has materials relevant to a class you are teaching, please contact Bill Finley (Department Head) or Erin Lawrimore (University Archivist).
Civic and social groups are also welcome for a guided tour or a preservation workshop. Please contact the Special Collections and University Archives to schedule a class, a guided tour of the exhibits, or a tour of the UNCG campus.
Preparing for a Class Visit
Many of the collections in Special Collections and University Archives are rare or irreplaceable and must be handled with great care to remain available for future scholarship. Thus, the staff asks that every visitor to the Reading Room follow policies regarding the handling and use of collections. Please have your students review the department’s policies (Using the Collections) before they visit the Hodges Reading Room.
A staff member will be present to greet your class. Before entering the Reading Room, faculty and students will be asked to check their coats and bags and sign in. Visitors may use pencil, paper, or a laptop. Food and beverage are not allowed in the Hodges Reading Room.
